Program Description

This workshop enhances knowledge and attitudes of health care professionals providing methadone and buprenorphine maintenance treatment and support to people experiencing opioid addiction. The workshop focuses on issues related to opioid agonist treatment in pregnancy, prevention and management of opioid emergencies, and structural approach to choosing between methadone and buprenorphine for treatment of opiod use disorders.
Participants are asked to assess, evaluate and formulate treatment plans for individuals in several case studies presenting challenges in the topics covered. Some of the case studies are based on challenging clinical cases sent to us in advanced by individuals who responded to a call-out letter in which we invited people to submit case-studies.
Some of the sessions will be based on exploration-learning, where the learners review case studies and step by step identify the issues in the case, and formulated a treatment plan; these sessions will be debriefed as a summary.
