Program Description

In today’s data-driven world, the ability to communicate complex information clearly and compellingly is essential, especially in the realm of urban planning and policymaking. This is a professional learning course crafted for junior and mid-career professionals who want to leverage the art of using data to drive impactful decisions and foster positive changes in urban environments.

Through this course, you will build a strong foundation in data literacy –including how to interpret, critique, and effectively use data – by learning to understand data sources, evaluate data quality, and apply insights to real world problems. You will become skilled at pinpointing the types of data and metrics that are most impactful in urban planning and policy, while developing proficiency in storytelling techniques that transform data into engaging and relatable narratives. You will learn to effectively convert data into persuasive narratives that resonate with diverse audiences, including stakeholders, community leaders, and the public.

Successful Completion of the Course
To successfully complete the course and receive a Certificate of Completion digital badge, learners are expected to meet all course requirements and maintain good standing.

Successful Completion of the Program
To successfully complete the program and receive a Professional Advancement Certificate, learners are expected to complete Urban Data Storytelling and Urban Data Analytics & Visualization in good standing.

Withdrawal Refund Policy
Learners who withdraw prior to the start of a course are eligible for a full refund subject to a $88.00CAD administrative charge plus 13% applicable tax per program/course. No refunds will be issued after the course begins.

Cancellation Policy for Not-for-Credit Offerings
All courses/process are subject to sufficient registration. School of Cities reserves the right to cancel courses/programs if minimum registration is not achieved. In the case of a cancellation, you will be informed 7 calendar days prior to the course/program start date. A full refund will be issued by means of the original method of payment in the event of a cancellation.

Policy on Video Recording and Sharing will be recorded on video and will be available to learners in the course for viewing remotely and after each session.  Course videos and materials belong to your instructor, the University, and/or other sources depending on the specific facts of each situation and are protected by copyright.
