MED2250 - Focus Cardiac Ultrasound (FoCUS) – the Workshop
Program Description
Point-of-care ultrasound is a powerful multi-disciplinary clinical tool at the bedside. A focused and goaldirected ultrasound examination can provide important bedside diagnostic and therapeutic information in critically ill patients.
This 1-day Workshop on Focused Cardiac Ultrasound (FoCUS) represents the synthesis of over 15 years of experience in teaching point-of-care echocardiography by WINFOCUS members around the world. The FoCUS© course is designed for healthcare providers in the fields of anesthesiology, emergency medicine, critical care medicine, acute care medicine and pre-hospital medicine who routinely manage acutely ill patients.
The course (formerly known as WINFOCUS Basic Echo, WBE) has been delivered since 2008 in more than 50 countries and it has reached its 140th edition. Its educational content conforms to the statements included in the 1st International Consensus Conference on Focused Cardiac UltraSound (Via G, Hussain A, et al. International Evidence-Based Recommendations for Focused Cardiac Ultrasound - JASE 2014).
The course is designed for healthcare providers with limited or no experience in cardiac ultrasound and covers the use of limited Transthoracic Echocardiography (TTE) in the settings of cardiac arrest, periarrest resuscitation and shock, and as an emergency bedside diagnostic tool for unstable patients. As the course teaches an ultrasound-guided systematic problem-based approach to shock, dyspnea and cardiac arrest that integrates ultrasound with the traditional clinical workup, it may also be of interest to more experienced echocardiographers who want to improve their clinical use of the technique.
