Program Description

This is a validated on-line radiology tutorial that emphasizes deliberate practice and high fidelity to the spectrum of diagnoses seen pediatric musculoskeletal images. In accordance with the theory of deliberate practice, our prior learning model includes sustained practice of hundreds of cases combined with immediate specific feedback on the learner's interpretation so that the participant can instantly learn from each case. To mirror clinical practice, the normal to abnormal radiograph ratio is representative of that seen in emergency medicine. Further, there is a spectrum of pathology that meets standards of education content for this skill. We have tested the learning effectiveness of this model and our results show that it is an effective model for learning this task. Our system currently houses about 300 case examples from each of the following domains: skull, humerus/clavicle/shoulder, elbow, wrist/forearm/hand, pelvis/femur, knee/tibia-fibula, ankle/foot. Each case set of 300 images takes approximately three-four hours to complete.
