Program Description
Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in those living with diabetes. In fact, those with diabetes are 3x more likely to die of heart disease and do so 15 years earlier than individuals without diabetes. Consequently, it is imperative for healthcare providers to engage, learn, and challenge one another on how to best care for patients at risk, or affected by, both diseases.
The Peter Munk Cardiac Centre (PMCC) and the Banting & Best Diabetes Centre (BBDC) have garnered a worldwide reputation as leaders in the fields of cardiovascular disease and diabetes. The Joint Cardiovascular-Diabetes Symposium is a novel partnership that will help transform the landscape of cardiovascular and diabetes care.

- Summarize latest evidence on cardiovascular risk reduction in diabetes and integrate latest recommendations into clinical practice
- Discuss management of patients with both heart failure and diabetes, using evidence-based therapies
- Develop an approach to addressing challenging clinical scenarios that clinicians may encounter when treating patients with diabetes and cardiovascular disease
- Understand contemporary percutaneous procedures for arrhythmias and valvular heart disease, including management of bradycardia with pacemakers, atrial fibrillation with ablation, and aortic stenosis with TAVR
