Program Description

While keeping up to date with new research and changing technology is necessary for maintaining excellence in clinical practice, the cornerstone of clinical success is based on a sound foundation in what we call ‘the basics’. The application of fundamental principles should always be at the forefront when considering patient management. This one-day symposium will focus on straightforward principles that are essential for providing safe, predictable and superlative patient care.

Experts in oral and maxillofacial surgery, orthodontics, periodontics, anesthesia, endodontics, prosthodontics, orofacial pain and oral and maxillofacial pathology will highlight and provide scientific and clinical insights behind the important principles that constitute the foundation of the daily practice of dentistry. The importance of accurate diagnosis (a basic principle) will be emphasized, as it is critical for the subsequent development of safe and effective treatments for our patients.

At the end of the symposium participants will have reviewed some of the foundational, and also most the most current tenets of dentistry.

To paraphrase Greg LeMond:

"Perhaps the single most important element in mastering the techniques and tactics of dentistry is experience. But once you have the fundamentals, acquiring the experience is merely a matter of time."
