Program Description

This year’s conference is directed to helping non-neurologists like general practitioners, general internists, psychiatrists, geriatricians, emergency physicians and others improve their skills and knowledge with regards to evaluating patients with common neurological presentations.

Plenary sessions and workshops will cover topics in Stroke, Headache, Movement Disorders, Epilepsy, Multiple Sclerosis and Dementia, and will also include skills workshops allowing participants to improve their neurological examination.

Goals

This two-day conference will address:

  • Evaluation of patients with TIA and stroke, and stroke prophylaxis
  • Approach to evaluation of patients with headaches, and management of chronic headaches
  • Parkinson’s disease – therapeutic options and managing complications
  • Evaluating and treating patients with dementia
  • Management of patients with seizures
  • Review of the neurological examination
  • Review of the mental status/cognitive examination, and interpretation

Objectives

After attending this conference, participants will be better able to:

  • Conduct a neurological and cognitive examination of patients
  • Initiate appropriate evaluation of patients presenting with possible TIAs and cerebrovascular disease, and be comfortable with post-stroke management
  • Develop a framework for managing acute and chronic headaches
  • Manage patients with Parkinson’s Disease
  • Evaluate patients with underlying dementia.
  • Manage patients with multiple sclerosis
  • Construct an approach for management of epileptic patients
